Different types of Ford electric vans

The Ford electric range is here and it’s just as versatile as you would expect from the world’s leading motor company. From Mild Hybrid vehicles that require no charging at all, to All-Electric vans that can be charged at home, on-the-go and at your workplace, making the leap to electric feels more seamless than ever before.

Ford electric and hybrid technology can be split into four categories: Mild Hybrid (mHEV), Hybrid (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and All-Electric (EV).

Mild Hybrid

A Mild Hybrid Ford uses a small electric motor to help power your conventional engine. The electric motor will never drive the car and the car will never solely run on electric power. The electric motor can recover energy from braking which improves efficiency and acts as on-board assistance.

A Hybrid Ford has two power sources – a conventional petrol engine and an electric battery. Your Hybrid Ford will be able to seamlessly switch between petrol miles and pure electric miles for shorter distances. It can also use both at the same time for better efficiency. Your Hybrid Ford will never require plug-in charging as it will charge itself on-the-go.

Plug-in Hybrid

Plug-in Hybrids have a similar set up to a Hybrid, but with a larger high voltage battery. This means you can drive on pure electric miles for longer distances (up to 30 miles approximately). Once you have used your electric miles, your Plug-in Hybrid will run like a normal Hybrid with the additional option of using a plug-in charger to get your electric miles back up sooner.

Ford’s first ever all-electric van will become available to purchase in 2022. It is the All-New Ford E-Transit which promises 126 miles (54 miles more than the daily average clocked on commercial vehicles). All-electric vans can be charged using a 230V power socket at home, a wallbox or a public charging station.

Reduced costs and tax exemption

Due to the lower emissions output of electric vans, you can expect to save money through zero road tax/VED (Vehicle Excise Duty), immunity from congestion and toll charges in low-emission zones, as well as 0% Benefit-in-Kind taxation.

With the rise in low-emission zones around the country, this is something every tradesperson will want to consider, especially those who regularly travel to geofenced locations such as London and surrounding areas where you can be charged based on how fuel-efficient your vehicle is.

Did you know you’re also eligible for a government grant up to £8,000 when you buy an electric van in the UK?

Towing & load capabilities maximised

Ford electric vans are designed to squash any myths regarding electric van towing and load capabilities. In fact, Ford electric vans power your business in the same way as our non-EV range, with the added benefit of reducing your carbon footprint and increasing your corporate responsibly.

The government has recently increased the load limit for large electric vans up to 4.25 tonnes – something called alternative fuel payload derogation – meaning a battery powered van is able to match its diesel equivalent for payload.

Simpler servicing for electric vans

Reduce the number of trips to the garage with simpler servicing at Sandicliffe Ford. You’ll be pleased to know that electric vans are made from fewer parts than non-electric vans, so there are considerably fewer things that could go wrong (if any).

Not only does this save you money due to less frequent van servicing, but it also allows your business to stay confident on the road thanks to the remarkable reliability of Ford electric vans.

You’re in charge, wherever you are

Whether you choose to charge your fleet at work or prefer to charge your electric van on-the-move, you’ll be pleased to know it’s never been easier.

With the huge increase of charging stations around the country, you’re never too far from juicing up, and thanks to Ford Sync technology, you’re able to locate your nearest charge-points easily on your infotainment display or mobile device.

Did you know you’re also eligible for government grants up to £500 for charge-point installations when buying an electric van in the UK?

Incorporate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Environmental concerns are a hot topic right now – people want to know they’re buying from responsible businesses who are doing everything they can to preserve our planet. Driving cleaner, greener electric alternatives and electrifying your business fleet would help reassure your customers that you are on board with their concerns.

We make it easier for you to meet your CSR requirements by making the switch to electric and hybrid vans affordable and highly rewarding.
