SLASH YOUR RUNNING COSTS

With a full charge costing £6-10 and providing anywhere from 150-300 miles of range, the cost per mile of an electric car may be up to 70% cheaper than petrol or diesel. With no engine oil or filters, servicing is much cheaper too.

PAY NO ROAD TAX
PAY NO ROAD TAX

With no emissions, there’s also no road tax or congestion charges to pay. What’s more, with new green number plates specifically for EV’s, in many places you can park for free too.

A SMOOTHER DRIVE
A SMOOTHER DRIVE

With no gears to change (even automatically), an EV produces a smooth drive, unparalleled by an internal combustion car. Also with instant torque and smooth power delivery, driving an EV for the first time may surprise you.

FAST & EASY HOME CHARGING

Overview

The ORA Funky Cat 48kWh First Edition is a modern and quirky electric vehicle designed for urban and suburban environments. As an ex-demonstrator vehicle prepared by ORA-trained technicians, it offers top-notch quality and reliability. Key Features: Battery and Range: The 48kWh battery provides an estimated WLTP range of up to 193 miles, making it suitable for daily commutes and short trips. Real-world driving conditions typically yield around 160 miles on a full charge, depending on driving style and conditions. Performance: The electric motor delivers 169 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-60 mph time of around 8.2 seconds. This ensures a zippy and responsive driving experience ideal for city traffic. Charging Infrastructure: Home Charging: Using a standard 7kW home charger, the Funky Cat can be fully charged in approximately 5 hours. Public Charging: At a 64kW DC fast charger, the vehicle can charge from 10% to 80% in about 45 minutes, making it convenient for quick top-ups during longer journeys. Technology and Connectivity: Infotainment System: The Funky Cat features a 10.25-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing seamless smartphone integration for navigation, music, and hands-free calls. Safety and Assistance: Equipped with a 360-degree camera and parking sensors, the car ensures easy and safe parking. Other safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and autonomous emergency braking. Cost of Ownership: Savings vs. ICE Cars: Fuel Savings: Charging the Funky Cat at home costs significantly less than fueling a comparable petrol vehicle. For example, a full charge at home might cost around £6-£9, depending on electricity rates, compared to much higher petrol costs for the same range. Maintenance Savings: Electric vehicles have fewer moving parts than internal combustion engines, resulting in lower maintenance costs. There are no oil changes, and brake wear is reduced due to regenerative braking. Tax Benefits: EVs benefit from lower road tax rates and, in many areas, exemption from congestion charge

Electric Frequently Asked Questions

An electric car (or Electric Vehicle - EV) or sometimes referred to as a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle), is a car powered solely by a battery that connects to an electric motor which, in turn, drives the wheels. In essence, for it to move, it needs to have power in the battery and that power comes from being plugged in.
If you do not have an electric home charger installed already, visit Rightcharge to compare all home chargers available on the market and find the one that best suits your needs.
The car will come with a charge connector that runs from the car to a domestic 3 pin plug, so you can charge your electric car with your installed home charger at any point of the day with up to 7kwh per hour. Supermarkets now typically have EV charging spaces, sometimes available for free while you shop and there is a growing network of publicly available charging points. A full map is available below. When you’re mid-journey, a rapid charger can charge your car back up to 80% in 20-40 mins.
On the contrary. While early EVs may have been very limited in power, an electric car now is arguably better to drive than most petrol or diesel cars. While a petrol or diesel car needs fuel and air to deliver power, an electric car can deliver instantaneous power delivery, giving impressive acceleration and a smooth drive.
While electric cars are typically more expensive than petrol cars, the gap is coming down and are becoming more affordable for most people. The running cost savings were previously monumental, and the gap has closed with the increase in energy prices, but our calculator above tries to demonstrate how little it can cost to run an electric car. Utilising overnight electricity rates and the occasional free charge, the savings can really mount up.
Switching to an electric car will undoubtedly save you money in tax. Whether that’s road tax or congestion charge zones, from which you're exempt in an electric car or company car tax, which in 2020-21 tax year also made you exempt from company car tax. In the next 2 years, company car tax rates will be 2%, which is a fraction of what you’ll pay in a petrol/diesel car. Plus, VAT on domestic energy is only 5% rather than the 20% you pay in fuel duty. What's more, some local authorities also offer free parking for electric cars and the introduction of green number plates paves the way for schemes to allow EV drivers to use bus lanes or other incentives.
The PICG (Plug In Car Grant) was removed in June 2022 which contributed £1,500 to the car's purchase price if under £32,000. However, until 2025, full EV's still pay £0 VED (Road Tax) and for company car drivers, the BIK (Benefit in Kind) payable on an EV is still only 2% representing a huge saving vs a petrol/diesel equivalent.
Electric cars aren't for everyone. If you’re regularly travelling long distances (250+ miles) and don't want to have to think about stopping to charge, then an electric car probably isn't for you… yet. If you don’t have off-street parking then relying on public charging can be a downside. However, for the vast majority of people who may have an average commute or use their car like the majority of the UK, an electric car can offer a great driving experience and some significant cost savings.
