Mazda CX-60: The Best Of Kodo Design

The all-new Mazda CX-60 is a masterpiece of Japanese Kodo design philosophy. Find out what you can expect from this elegant new PHEV SUV.

Mazda has always been strongly committed to its unique Jinba Ittai design philosophy. However, it is the tenets of “Kodo design” that have been turning heads in their more modern vehicles. The all-new Mazda CX-60 is the latest in a long line of Kodo-styled cars, and it truly exemplifies the beauty of Kodo, which means “soul in motion”.

As well as representing an elegant achievement in Kodo design, the CX-60 will also be the very first Plug-in Hybrid SUV in the Mazda electric vehicle collection. As a result, this flagship SUV is more than just another Mazda car. It is the summation of a decade of work that started when Kodo design was first employed in the first-generation Mazda CX-5.

Their unique design philosophy was further developed in the effortlessly elegant and endlessly popular Mazda3. This vehicle encapsulates Kodo design, a style that focuses on the Japanese concept of Ma - which, according to Mazda, “is the calm and dignified beauty of empty space.”

With the CX-60, this design is taken to new heights, and we can’t wait to show you this incredible vehicle. By combining the tenets of Kodo philosophy with a “Nobel Toughness”, the all-new Mazda CX-60 is the peak of Mazda design. To show you just how special this car is, the Sandicliffe experts break down its unique design below!

The look and feel of the new CX-60 have been entirely shaped by a Kodo design philosophy. With a carefully sculpted exterior, powerful-looking grille and vertically stacked headlights, the CX-60 has a striking presence on the road. The unique and dynamic shape of the vehicle is designed to look like a powerful animal running at full speed.

The toughness of the CX-60 is balanced by several delicate design touches. This includes a streak of light that beams down the rear of the vehicle, ending at the wheel arch. This simple yet striking element represents the sweeping and delicate strokes of Japanese calligraphy. The resulting combination of power and poise is unlike any other SUV on the road.

Finally, there is a range of body types and paint colours for you to choose from. This allows you to bring a touch of personalisation to the already eye-catching CX-60. With a colour choice of et Black, Deep Crystal Blue, Sonic Silver, Platinum Quartz, Arctic White, Rhodium White, Machine Grey and Soul Red Crystal, you are sure to find a CX-60 that fits the design of your personality.

Discussing the Mazda CX-60 and its design philosophy, Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director of Mazda Motors UK said, “the Mazda CX-60 heralds the start of a new chapter for Mazda, not only is it our first car with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but it also sets new standards for interior quality, design and technology – highlighting Mazda’s uniquely Japanese premium brand direction”

With so many stunning new vehicles scheduled to hit the roads of the UK in the near future, it is exciting to see just how proud the Mazda team is of their efforts with the CX-60.

Thomson then added that he “can’t wait for our customers and dealers to experience the CX-60 later this year, with the positioning of the high voltage battery at the centre of the car and as low as possible, this is a PHEV with a particularly low centre of gravity.”

He finished his assessment of the new CX-60 by noting how this low centre of gravity and powerful battery is “combined with a permanent all-wheel-drive system incorporating shaft-driven transfer of torque between the axles, gives the car superior handling characteristics on a par with the best in the premium segment.”

As you can see, Mazda is just as excited as we are to take a new CX-60 for a spin.
