Belvoir Castle, Grantham, Leicestershire, NG32 1PE

The Belvoir Castle is located on a hill near Grantham and has been in a continuous family line for almost a thousand years as the home of the Duke of Rutland,

During the weekend of the 5th and 6th of August, the Belvoir Castle welcomes a Napoleonic era brought to life with re-enactments, battle sequences, dances, etc.

If you love castles and re-enactments but can’t attend the Napoleonic weekend, Bolsover Castle hosts a Legendary Joust event from the 26th to the 28th of August. Experience a spectacle of speed and skill as four knights compete for honour and glory I the Grand Medieval Joust.

From the 1st to the 3rd of September, attend the mythical Chatsworth Country Fair. Held in the 1000-acre field surrounding Chatsworth House, this fair is one of England’s most spectacular annual outdoor events.

White Post Farm, Mansfield Road, Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire, NG22 8HL

For over 30 years, the White Post Farm has been entertaining millions of children and adults, giving them the opportunity to get up close to a wide variety of friendly animals. In August, the farm will host 3 events in the evening;

- Under the Sea on the 19th of August 5.30 pm to 8.00 pm. Meet a real mermaid and take pictures with this mythical sea creature! On the beach, you will have to hunt for a golden shell and you can test your limits with the under the sea limbo game. Plus, you get to have glitter tattoos!

Derbion, London Rd, Derby DE1 2PL

This shopping centre at the heart of Derby offers a few children’s activities throughout the summer;

- Building Buddies – Until the 27th of August, Derbion provides a hands-on, interactive experience for children to develop their skills in collaboration, and creation by learning in a building-themed role-play event. They will be equipped with mini hard hats and high-vis vests and will discover new skills by pushing their limits of their logical thinking.

- Prehistoric Plants Children's Walk – Explore Chatsworth and discover plants and trees that existed when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Find out which plants were a tasty snack for a Triceratops and see if you can spot where an Ankylosaurus might have been able to hide from a Tyrannosaurus rex.

Wollaton Hall and Deer Park, Wollaton Rd, Nottingham NG8 2AE

This amazing building, home to the National History Museum, has been built in 1580 on a small hill in Wollaton Park. The surrounding park is home to deer, living peacefully near people but also used for outdoor events such as concerts, festival, sporting events.


Matlock Farm Park, Jaggers Ln, Matlock DE4 5LH

This amazing 600-acre farm is perfect for a family day trip with young children. Animal lovers will find their happiness as they will have the chance to cuddle a rabbit or a lamb, see some llamas and plenty of other animals.

The park also hosts The Peak District Highland Games on the Sunday 27th August.


Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre, Alexandra Dock, Grimsby DN31 1UZ

Learn some interesting facts about the fishing industry at Grimbsy Heritage Centre. Children can get dressed up with fishing equipment and navigate around to understand what life in the 1950s was like.


Markeaton Park Paddling Pool, Markeaton Ln, Derby DE22 4AA

Open daily between 10.30am and 4.30pm throughout July and August, it will close on Sunday, September 3 but the entry is free.

The ever-popular family attraction at the Markeaton Lane park's Mundy Play Centre boasts three fountains and plenty of fun and games.


Leicester City

From Monday, July 17 until Friday, August 25, young children and families can enjoy free activities at Leicester’s children, young people and family centres. The Get Up and Go programme will include indoor and outdoor fun, such as skipping, circus skills and giant games, as well as a chance to have a go on the new smoothie and spin art bikes.
