September sees a record for new car sales

September not only saw the 43rd consecutive month of growth for new car sales it also set a new record!

2014 was the best year for new car sales in over a decade! With that in mind there was a lot of pressure on 2015 to exceed those expectations and so far it could be in with a good chance of doing so!

Figures from The Society of Manufacturers & Traders released earlier this month showed that the new car market recorded its 43rd consecutive month of growth in September. New car registrations increased by 8.6% to 462,517 for the month making it the highest September on record! Registrations in the private, business and fleet markets were also up. Whilst the market for alternatively-fuelled vehicles also saw another month of growth by 21.7% with a 48.7% year-to-year growth overall.

New car registrations in the UK reached their highest-ever September, with many attractive deals on the latest 65-plate appealing to buyers. It is also the first time since 2004 that year-to-date total registrations have passed the two million mark in September at 2,096,886.

Many car-buyers are opting for affordable family hatchbacks, superminis and crossovers with reliability. So it is hardly a surprise that the Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus & Nissan Qashqai make it into the top ten. We take a look at what makes the models three of the UK’s best selling cars.

Ford Fiesta – 22,807 registrations in September – 108,054 registrations year-to-date

Nissan Qashqai – 10,119 registrations in August – 49,715 year-to-date
