The Mazda CX-5 is available to order now, with estimated deliveries coming in 2022. Mazda have given the classic CX-5 some drastic upgrades including; updated design, new models as well as more trim options! Here’s everything we know so far about the updated Mazda CX-5 for 2022..

Mazda’s styling tweaks for the CX-5 include new front and rear bumpers, brand new headlights and cutting edge crisp tail lights. As ever, Mazda have stayed true to their human-centric design philosophy and revised the suspension and seats for a more comfortable, quiet drive which is essential to Mazda’s Jinba Ittai, oneness between man and car.

Mazda’s new Mi-Drive system allows the driver to set drivetrain modes that allows the car to be adjusted to suit the road surface the driver is on, as part of the 2022 update on the CX-5 there’s a new Off-Road mode which Mazda says: “makes driving “feel more natural on unmade and slippery surfaces.”

The 2022 update also includes a wireless smartphone charger in the centre console, along with Mazda’s Cruise and Traffice Support system that helps with driver fatigue in slow moving traffic.

One of the most interesting changes is the changes that have been made to the trim level structure. The revised trim line up now encompasses five grades in the UK, SE-L, Newground, Sport, Sport Black and GT Sport. Newground, Sport Black and GT Sport are new for the 2022 CX-5. For the first time on the CX-5, each new specification will have a range model-specific styling tweaks.

Mazda’s new Sport Black specification features 19-inch black alloy wheels and gloss black trim for the wheel arches, side skirts, side mouldings, door mirrors and grille surround. There’s also red accents in the radiator grille and black leather seats accented with red stitching.

The mid-range Newground features 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, silver front and rear underguards, silver side skirts and a lime green trim for the grille. The interior features the lime green on the air vents and the piping on the half leatherette seats.

At the very top of the Mazda CX-5 is the CX-5 GT Sport that comes fitted with 19-inch silver alloy wheels, body colour exterior trim, Nappa leather upholstery as well as genuine wood panels for the interior, offering complete luxury.

There’s a choice of four engines in the CX-5 line up. There’s two petrol engines to choose from, either the 163bhp 2.0l unit or if speed is your thing, the GT Sport model comes with a 2.5 litre engine offering an amazing 191bhp. The diesel engines are both 2.2 litre, and offer either 148bhp or 181bhp and both come with a six speed manual gearbox as standard!

Another point to note, is that the NHTSA gave the 2022 Mazda CX-5 a 5 star overall safety rating, this score includes four stars in the front and side crash tests and five stars in the rollover test.
