A quick review on our top 3 UK convertible and cabriolet cars that you should seriously be considering in 2020.
Apr 27, 2020
Already planning the road trip of a lifetime for once this is all over? We have just the selection of convertible cars that will take your adventure from incredible to unforgettable. It’s been difficult to narrow the list of the best convertibles in the UK down to just 3 models but we’re certain we’ve got the best 3 in our top 3 right here.
1. Ford Mustang Soft Top Convertible
Let’s begin with one of the most iconic muscle cars to ever grace our UK roads – the Ford Mustang. The recently announced world’s best-selling sports car is a magical motor set to turn up the heat on any adventure it’s taken on. It’s extremely stylish with a distinctive road presence so huge, it won’t just turn heads, it’ll break necks.
But what’s cooler than a Ford Mustang? A Ford Mustang with a convertible soft-top roof perfect for the upcoming summer breeze.
The Ford Mustang Convertible can be driven as a 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol pumping out 290bhp, or a monster 5.0-litre V8 GT producing an eye-popping 450bhp. Both engines can be mated to a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Ford Mustang Convertible has an advantage over many other convertible and cabriolet models in the way that it is slightly longer than all of them. For that reason, the Mustang Convertible offers up to 332-litres of boot capacity to store your luggage in. Its boxy shape also means that it avoids intrusions and can stack cargo without having to adhere to rounded or curved areas.
The four-seat convertible makes for a great family car too with 2 Isofix mounts in the rear seats.
All models from 2018 come packed with more tech than ever before including advanced driving assistance technology such as pedestrian detection with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. Your infotainment system makes your Mustang Convertible interior even more inviting thanks to a 3.8-inch touchscreen that enables your freedom with just a tap of the screen.
Driving dynamics are second to none behind the wheel of a Mustang Convertible. Speaking of which, your Mustang Convertible will drive on unique 19-inch alloy wheels connected to a suspension you can modify on the go with a set of driving modes so you can get the most out of each journey. Prepare to hit 0-60mph in just 4.2 seconds in the Ford Mustang GT Convertible with Performance Pack.
Enjoy your new Ford Mustang with a 6-month payment holiday when you order at Sandicliffe Ford before 31st May 2020. Find out more.

Another award-winning icon of the sports car series over years – the Mazda MX-5 which celebrated 30 years in 2019 (30th Anniversary edition pictured above). Recently crowned as WhatCar’s 2020 Sports Car less than £30,000, the Mazda MX-5 proves you don't have to go bankrupt to experience wind-in-the-hair and head-in-the-clouds driving. As well as being one of the most fun cars to get behind the wheel of thanks to its lightweight and incredibly agile driving dynamics, the MX-5 Soft Top is also one of the most affordable convertibles on the market. Best of all, the nimble MX-5 has been refined and enhanced for 2020.
The Japanese brand has introduced its signature Polymetal Grey colourway to the MX-5 range for “a new visual expression of quality by emphasising the interplay between light and shadow.” Mazda goes on to claim the “2020 Mazda MX-5 is more than a sports car. It's the champion of roadsters” and we may just have to agree.
Not only can you enjoy the MX-5 Roadster as a soft-top convertible but drivers of MX-5 can enjoy a retractable metal roof that offers open-air cruising and closed top driving for the days you wish to take to the road in a coupe (this option is also known as the MX-5 RF or Retractable Fastback).
The undeniable sports car has returned another year strong promising “more power, less weight”. For the soft-top Miata, you can choose from the 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G engine (132bhp) or range topping 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G engine with 181bhp. Both engines come attached to a six-speed manual rear wheel drive gearbox with slick and quick gear changes accentuating the sporty nature of the two-seat convertible.
You’ll sit deep and low in the MX-5 giving you the ultimate race car feel and to keep the sports car as lightweight as possible, your MX-5 Miata is hollowed out to provide only the bare minimum inside. That means no glovebox, door pockets or cubby holes but this of course opens leeway for more legroom and general interior cabin space which puts emphasis on the light and airy quality of the roadster.
Despite being so small, the MX-5 manages to provide up to 130 litres of cargo space and has recently been reshaped to make it much more practical for everyday use.
The MX-5 range was designed for cruising. With access to open-air in an instant, the glorious roar of the engine fills your acoustic surroundings as you become one with the vehicle. The range-topping MX-5 model makes use of Blistein dampers with a standard fit strut-brace to deliver only the sharpest, most alert responses on the road whilst integrated i-ACTIVSENSE driving technology with safety features such as lane-departure warning and blind-spot monitoring keeps you one step ahead of each exhilarating curve.
If you’re ready to take on the iconic Mazda roadster once it's safe to do so, why not snap up a deal before it's too late?

Nissan’s 370z is built for the rebellious driver who seeks nothing but real, raw and rapid fun. Fold back the roof and the Nissan 370z Soft Top Roadster provides you with a traditional, uncomplicated sports car. It shares the same engine as the Coupe, steers just as well and accelerates just as hard on 19-inch alloy wheels.
Under the bonnet of the Nissan 370z Convertible is a 3.7-litre V6 engine backed by a beastly 328bhp and 363Nm of torque. Available as either a 6-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Opt for a SynchroRev Match system for a 6-speed manual transmission included in the Nissan 370z Sport Package.
You'll have 140 litres of storage space at the rear of your 307z Soft Top, big enough to stow away 2 luggage cases for you and a lucky friend before you hit the country roads!
Since receiving a revised suspension back in 2011, the Nissan 370z enjoys front and rear shock absorbers with enhanced compressions and rebound rates as well as increased damping force. The result? Settings that mirror the Nissan 370z GT Edition (which is only available as a coupe) providing excellent grip, ride and body control.
Accelerate to a 62mph in just 5.8 seconds and be on your way to a top speed of 155mph with the Nissan 370z Convertible.
