As the new James Bond film, Spectre opens in cinemas nationwide this week we thought that we would take a look at some of the most iconic Ford models featured in the films throughout its fifty year history.
Ford Anglia 105E
The Ford Anglia 105E was the first Ford to ever feature in a Bond film and was owned by a British Intelligence Chief called Strangways in Dr.No. The car was designed and manufactured by Ford UK although heavily influenced by American-styling, with such features as a sweeping nose line, slanted chrome grille and prominent headlamps.
A Lincoln Continental features in Goldfinger when gangster Mr.Solo’s car is crushed by villain, Oddjob after he refuses to join the Grand Slam operation. James Bond owns a 1965 Lincoln Continental convertible in Thunderball that featured revised frontal styling, recessed grille and wrap-around turn indicator-side light units finished in Madison Grey with a white convertible top.
1964 Ford Mustang
In a rather cheesy car chase in Goldfinger, Tilly Masterton in her Mustang Convertible is forced off the road by Bond by his scythed chariot wheels. In 1964 the Ford Mustang was relatively new and has become one of the most successful Ford models with recently, after fifty years being introduced to the UK in right-hand drive.
Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible
Bond stumbles upon an ice track in his Mercury Cougar XR7 whilst Blofeld’s henchmen are after him in a memorable car chase scene from the classic, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
Ford Mustang Mach 1
Featured in Diamonds Are Forever, in one of the most famous Bond car chase scenes of all time, 007 along with Tiffany Case speed through Las Vegas with the police hot on their trail.
Bond drives the Fairlane during his visit to Cuba in Die Another Day, a direct homage to Thunderball where villain Count Lippe drives a 1957 Ford Fairlane Skyliner.
The Ford Thunderbird is driven by Halle Berry’s Giacinta ‘Jinx ‘Johnson in Die Another Day. To commemorate Ford released a limited amount of 007 Ford Thunderbird models that featured a coral exterior, 21-spoke chrome wheels and performance white seats.
Ford Mondeo 2.5 Litre ST
When not involved in a car chase 007 opts for a Ford Mondeo in Casino Royale to travel to the Ocean Club. The model was required for filming a year before it was released commercially, it was constructed and shipped to the Bahamas discreetly. The model is a range-topping 2.5 litre ST version with a sports bodykit and tonic blue paintwork. The exclusive Mondeo is on display at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu
