September sees a record for new car sales

September not only saw the 43rd consecutive month of growth for new car sales it also set a new record!

Oct 22, 2015

2014 was the best year for new car sales in over a decade! With that in mind there was a lot of pressure on 2015 to exceed those expectations and so far it could be in with a good chance of doing so!

Figures from The Society of Manufacturers & Traders released earlier this month showed that the new car market recorded its 43rd consecutive month of growth in September. New car registrations increased by 8.6% to 462,517 for the month making it the highest September on record! Registrations in the private, business and fleet markets were also up. Whilst the market for alternatively-fuelled vehicles also saw another month of growth by 21.7% with a 48.7% year-to-year growth overall.

New car registrations in the UK reached their highest-ever September, with many attractive deals on the latest 65-plate appealing to buyers. It is also the first time since 2004 that year-to-date total registrations have passed the two million mark in September at 2,096,886.

Many car-buyers are opting for affordable family hatchbacks, superminis and crossovers with reliability. So it is hardly a surprise that the Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus & Nissan Qashqai make it into the top ten. We take a look at what makes the models three of the UK’s best selling cars.

Ford Fiesta – 22,807 registrations in September – 108,054 registrations year-to-date

The Ford Fiesta has reigned supreme at the top of the UK car sales for a long time. Fun to drive, practical and great value for money!

The 2015 Ford Fiesta provides more power and fuel economy than previous engines, handy Ford Active Park Assist and great tech with the Ford SYNC 2. The supermini also boasts a smooth drive, handling bumps in the road with ease. The Fiesta shows no signs of stopping as it tops the charts as the UK’s bestselling car of all time. With over 4 million sales since it debuted in 1976, the Fiesta has become a staple on British roads.

The Ford Focus has also remained one of the top selling Ford models in the UK for quite some time. The family hatchback varies from no-frill basic models to models filled with gadgets galore offering  a range of petrol or diesel engines. The Zetec and Titanium options offer long-distance comfort with adjustable lumbar support. As is standard with Fords, the Focus is spacious, fun to drive and eager with precise steering. The new Focus for 2015 also comes with a three year, 60,000 mile warranty.

The main reason for the success of the Ford Focus comes down to practicality and great looks, making it a winning family car!

The Qashqai is a small, ego-friendly SUV that has won the What Car? Best Small SUV of the year for two years running! An ingenious chassis allows a smooth and easy ride through city streets with body motion control technology smoothing out body movement over bumps. The range-topping Tekna also comes with park assist and a 360-degree camera enabling an easier way to park your car.

The original Qashqai was one of the first cars that combined 4x4 styling with hatchback running costs. Although a little more expensive than your normal hatchback, the crossover boasts stylish looks, spacious design and a solid performance making it easy to see why the Qashqai is so popular.
