3 places to drive your loved one to this Valentine's Day
Thinking Of Treating A Loved One To A Fancy Trip Out This Valentines Day? Here's 3 Great Places You May Want To Consider Taking Them To!
Feb 12, 2014
Finding something special to do for Valentine's Day can be tough. A trip to your local pub or restaurant is hardly likely to set the pulses racing while mini-breaks can end up being expensive. So, we've put together three ideas for road trips this February 14th. Treat your loved one to a special occasion this Valentine's Day by jumping in your car and enjoying one of these three romantic getaways.
Take a trip on the Bluebell Railway
If you want a truly romantic experience this Valentine's Day, it could be found on the beautiful Bluebell Railway in East Sussex. The railway has featured in many TV dramas and films including Downton Abbey, The Railway Children, A Room With A View and The Woman In Black. This eleven mile stretch of heritage railway has been providing a passenger service for over 50 years and is one of the most well-known steam train journeys in the UK. This Valentine's Day you have the choice of taking afternoon tea on the railway in a first class carriage or, if you prefer, you can treat your loved one to a three course meal in the evening on the famous Golden Arrow Pullman. To enjoy this romantic experience, jump in your car and head south down the M1, the M25 and the M23 before taking the A264 towards East Grinstead. At a leisurely pace it should take you just over three hours.
Watch a classic film at the drive-in
If you want to enjoy one of the UK's most beautiful cities then it's worth packing a picnic, popping your 'love songs' playlist on shuffle and heading north up the A1. Edinburgh is a great place for a romantic weekend at any time of the year but there is one special event that may tempt you this February. After a successful event in Glasgow when over 30,000 people packed in over one weekend, Edinburgh will host a drive-in movie cinema for this Valentine's weekend. For just £26 per car you can enjoy one of two romantic films on the world's biggest LED screen with Edinburgh Airport's runway as a backdrop. Top Gun and The Notebook are the two films on offer at this classic American drive-in setting. As the organisers note, 'restricted views from the backseat are likely dependent on your car'. And, it needn't cost a fortune either. The new Ford Focus 1.0l EcoBoost Edge will do a combined 60mpg, getting you to Scotland's capital on less than five gallons of fuel.
Enjoy a romantic tour of the night sky
If you want to enjoy a special night closer to home, why not jump in your car and head to the National Space Centre in Leicester? It may not seem like the ideal location for a romantic evening but you can prove that love is truly written in the stars at a very special Valentine's event. As well as a four course intimate dinner under the Space Centre's rockets you can enjoy a romantic tour of the night sky in the UK's largest planetarium. And, once your tour is complete, you can explore the many exhibits at the Space Centre before heading to the Cosmic Cocktail bar for a nightcap (a non alcoholic one if you're driving, don't forget). The Space Centre is easily accessible from across the East Midlands. If you really want to make a night of it you can leave your car at the Hilton and enjoy complimentary travel to the Space Centre as well as a romantic night at the hotel.
