Two new special edition Ford GTs debuted at the Chicago Motor Show on Saturday 8th February 2020. Discover new features and official images.
Feb 10, 2020
There's no doubt the iconic Ford GT turns heads and sends shivers through your body at its every mention, so just imagine the excitement when 2 new special editions of the extraordinary racecar were revealed days ago.
Newly improved for 2020, the latest editions of the GT supercar enjoy increased horsepower levels of 660bhp - an additional 13bhp from the previous edition.
Also included in the 2020 upgrade is Ford's new engine cooling technology, larger air-ducts, beguiling new headlight design and 2 unique limited-edition colour options - an exposed Liquid Carbon edition and a gulf livery Heritage edition.
The Liquid Carbon edition looks exactly how it sounds it would - silky, sleek, strikingly good-looking. Ford has once again created the Ford GT in a breath-taking colourway, but this time without a drop of paint.
The Ford GT Liquid Carbon edition features a bare carbon fibre body fully exposed and sealed with a special clearcoat.
The result? A textured look and feel never seen before on the lightweight sculpted Ford GT, emphasising an otherworldy sentiment. It's intense without being overwhelming. It'll turn your head, but the rest of your body will follow.
Angus Smith, General Manager of Multimatic Niche Vehicles, North America, said "The next chapter in the Ford GT story allows us to fully demonstrate our mastery in both the art and science of carbon fibre craftsmanship and finishing."
He added, "The results of this ongoing partnership between Multimatic and Ford Performance speak for themselves, as each visually stunning and unique Liquid Carbon GT is a manufacturing marvel, showcasing the characteristics and nuances inherent in carbon fibre composites."
Take a closer look at the video below to see.
But Ford's GT craftsmanship doesn't stop there. Where the Liquid Carbon edition takes you into the future, the second of the two quickly pulls you back into the past, the year of 1969 to be exact.
You may have already guessed by now that the 2020 Ford GT Heritage edition pays homage to one of Ford's iconic wins in motorsport history - the 1969 Le Mans victory.
Sporting the same colours and racing number as the Gulf GT40 that took home first place in the Le Mans endurance race of 1969, the 2020 Ford GT Heritage is in most ways the revival of the winning racecar.
The racing livery has been tastefully restyled to modernise the design without losing any familiarisation to the event that continued to prove Ford's position within the world of motorsport. Minor redesign includes the black pinstripe separation of the famous blue and orange colour combo for example.
Mike Severson, Ford GT Programme Manager, said "Our team is very focussed on delivering a car that exceeds customer expectations."
He added, "The black pinstripe and carbon fibre wheels have been highly requested with the Gulf livery, so we committed to making that happen."
That's right, for the first time ever, you can drive the Ford GT with heritage livery and carbon fibre wheels.
What's more, Akrapovič titanium exhausts are now standard for the Ford GT, meaning you benefit from an exceptional exhaust system that combines performance, expert craftsmanship and "deeply resonant, unmistakable sound".
The 2020 Ford GT is also able to offer a broader torque band thanks to revised calibration of the V6 twin-turbo 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine as well as mechanical upgrades which include gallery-cooled pistons and higher-energy coils.
Ford claims these revisions come as a direct result of their ongoing commitment to technology innovation and valuable lessons learned from the production of the limited-edition, track-only Ford GT MK II.
Last year, Sandiciffe Ford hosted a private screening event of Le Mans '66 - a film documenting the most controversial win in motorsport history and the first of many for Ford. To celebrate the occasion, we wrapped one of our Ford GTs in similar style! Check it out here:
