Sandicliffe employees get on their bike for charity

Wednesday 24th April 2008

Two Sandicliffe Motor Group employees have really gone the extra mile after completing bike rides for charity raising £44,000 - cycling a total of 437 miles.

David Fox raised an incredible £22,000 for Ride4Life, a group dedicated to finding a cure for Cancer. Whilst Simon Palmer rode for both Cancer Research UK and the the UK's leading children's cancer charity Clic Sargent earning £20,000 from sponsorship.

David, who works in the Bodyshop in the Hucknall branch, rode from Hucknall to Skegness covering 74 miles. Commercial Sales Administrator, Simon, cycled 363 miles over six days with his friends from his local pub, the Woodmans Stroke in Rothley.

Simon, who came up with the idea with friends in the pub on Boxing Day last year, said: "We wanted to do something for charity as we are all bike buffs. We also wanted an adventure and we certainly intend to do the Ride4Life in 2008 which takes place in Paris. It is one of the most worthwhile activities I have ever participated in and it was a real achievement."

Having been inspired by its staff, Sandicliffe has introduced a new initiative to encourage more employees to get on their bike. The scheme allows employees to purchase a new bike at 50% of its retail value. This is a move that sees Sandicliffe taking a further step as an environmentally conscious employer.

Sandicliffe, a company that recognises the importance of its environmental responsibilities, is currently working with the Carbon Trust and Climate Care on energy and environmental issues, and have initiatives in place aimed at minimising the Company’s impact on the environment including reducing energy consumption.
