Family owned car retailer has bumper start to the year

Sandicliffe Motor Group, the East Midlands family owned car retailer, has marked a bumper start to 2008 by being short-listed for five awards at the equivalent of the motor industry Oscars, just one month after it posted its best ever sales results for the New Year period, bucking the trend of declining UK industry car sales.

Sandicliffe has been short-listed in all five categories it has entered in the national Automotive Management Awards taking place in Birmingham on 27th February, namely Best Retail Group, Excellence in Customer Service, Best Marketing Programme, Best Training Programme and Best Environmental Policy.

The short list sees the retailer build on its success in the 2007 awards in which it won the coveted award for Best Retail Group and picked up Best Marketing Campaign for the second year running.

The results follow hot on the heels of Sandicliffe achieving a record start to the year when it sold more than 500 cars – equating to six cars every hour – at the group’s 'Swop-shop' 9 day sales event. The event marked one of the most successful in the group’s 60 year history. In addition, another group record was broken when a further 116 new Fords were sold in just three days during their annual February Compound Clearance.

In 2007, Sandicliffe also made waves across the motor industry when it became the first retail group in the UK to launch a company-wide manifesto for actively promoting the sale of eco-friendly cars, as well as reducing carbon emissions from its own day-to-day operations.

The AM awards ceremony will be attended by over 1,200 Senior Motor Industry Management and will take place at the ICC in Birmingham on 27 th February to celebrate the best of the motoring industry across the country.
